All marketing researches are categorized into quantitative and qualitative research and both compliment each other. The quantitative research method is focused on evaluation and assessment of statistical data, and the qualitative researcher uses this data to understand human behavior and patterns. For example, statistics about demographic groups who would be purchasing soap or shampoo is quantitative researching. Often multiple choice questionnaires included in sales data form a part of quantitative research techniques. However, the qualitative research focuses on providing crucial data related to consumer behavioral patterns, their opinions of certain products and service. The qualitative research methods include open-ended survey questions and focus groups. Basically qualitative research focuses on depth understanding while the other is an understanding of semantics.
