Job Description:

The Researcher’s role is to:

Define the research and deliver to the Shell businesses novel bio-processes that cost effectively convert renewable feedstocks to biofuels/chemicals via fermentation or anaerobic digestion routes.

Work on renewable molecules that better harness energy and atmospheric carbon, through novel hosts, pathways and processes, including fermentation, solid state systems and anaerobic digestion.

Strategize on an emerging business, lead multi-disciplinary, multi-country Shell and 3rd party research and to ensure the Shell reputation with external stakeholders such as Universities.

Design and implementation of experimental programs aimed at producing commercially viable biofuel and chemicals from micro-organisms, considering a wide range of contributory factors; and identifying opportunities and engaging with the development of commercial plans.

The role will be in the BioDomain team part of the New Energies Research and Technology group, a team focused on delivering low carbon biofuels, chemicals and natural carbon sinks into the market.

Requirements:

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

PhD in Fermentation, Biology, Biochemistry or related field is a must

3 year’s relevant work experience in fermentation, anaerobic digestion, microbial host development or similar relevant experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be a distinct advantage:

Practical working knowledge of biological metabolic pathways, systems, enzymes and have hands-on expert working knowledge of a biological discipline

Good knowledge in sugars/lipids to biofuels conversion technologies, enzyme hydrolysis and solid and/or liquid fermentation (batch or continuous flow at pilot scale) and host modification and transformation techniques.

Ability to contribute cooperatively in a highly collaborative and team-oriented environment

Must be willing to work at our Shell Technology Center at Houston, Texas
