R&D Mechanical Engineer High Temperature Materials/EquipmentOur client, a global leader in atmospheric industrial gases is seeking an R&D Mechanical Engineer thatwill support R&D equipment design and development through materials selection, strength analysis, and design to ensure successful definition, engineering, construction, commissioning and safe operation of high temperature OTM reactors and systems. The position will require strong mechanical engineering aptitude and familiarity of ASME, API, ASTM, and NFPA codes. Experience with high temperature materials and equipment design is preferred.This role requires close coordination with internal and external project stakeholders, and external technology development (R&D) teams. Successful candidates should demonstrate a focus on safety, strong verbal and written communication skills, a team-oriented focus, and an ability to find innovative technical solutions that best meet the needs of the customer.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead reliability initiatives with respect to metal material selection, metal joining qualification and strength/life analysis to ensure customer requirements and applicable code standards are met Pull required inputs from project stakeholders and R&D technology teams Work with materials analysis team to ensure learnings from failure analyses are implemented in next generation designs Achieve and deliver project cost targets, value propositions, and business cases Summarize design and fabrication requirements and inform designers and stakeholders as required Support mechanical design, fabrication and construction of OTM reactor components and systems Drive safety culture and priorities within the teamREQUIREMENTS: BSin Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science with5 years of relevant industrial experience, OR a MSin Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science and 3 years of relevant industrial experience. (internship experience not included) Skilled in 3D modeling and part and assembly design 2 years experience in high temperature equipment design, experience with applicable high temperature design standards (ISA, NFPA, ASME, API, etc.) Proven experience performing strength calculations and FEA (finite element analysis) of components and assemblies(Ansys, SolidWorks, or equivalent) Experience specifying pipe and metal joints,experience with pipe stress analysis preferred (Autopipe or equivalent) Proven knowledge of high temperature alloys and their respective joining (welding) methods preferred Experience with metal fabrication and inspection requirements for industrial equipment Familiarity with SMR, ATR, CR, and/or POx technologies for production of syngas Ability to travel up to 20% of the time (domestic and international)
