Job Summary Conducts statistical and economic analyses of current macroeconomic and regional data, and provides research support for the economists as directed by them. May evaluate possible competitive effects of complex Bank Holding Company (BHC) acquisitions and bank merger applications, and respond to request for data related to the banking markets. Senior Research Assistants will use greater initiative, thoroughness and value-added creativity to complete objectives than Research Assistant position. Independently imposes high quality standards on work prior to submission. The level of work is considered intermediate and staff must be able to work under general supervision. This position has no direct reports. Principal Duties and Responsibilities * Supports the economists in their basic and applied research by performing tasks including data collection, conducting moderately complex statistical analysis, writing statistical software programs, and organizing the presentation of results * With general direction from the economists, researches economic topics for economists articles in Economic Perspectives and the Chicago Fed Letter, or researches banking markets for casework analysis; on some of these occasions, the Senior Research Assistant efforts will be substantial enough to constitute collaboration with the economists (or department management), leading to jointly authored articles (or ownership of casework analysis) * Creates a variety of charts, tables, and descriptive text for Department management or other staff economists to use in their briefings of the President and the Board of Directors or for creating an evaluation of a BHC merger or acquisition application * Researches and organizes background materials for presentations to the President, for responding to other System-wide directives and requests or for creating casework to support a recommendation to the BOG for approval or denial of the application * Performs other duties as requested
