The Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences (I-LABS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Research Study Assistant. The research study assistant will perform both complex and routine procedures. The assistant will ensure the smooth operations of a research study involving infants’ sense of touch and assist with data collection for use in fundamental research. Responsibilities: Communicate comfortably with parents and community members, and talk in a professional manner while also being able to establish a rapport with parents and community members. Coordinate with community agencies and hospitals to ensure the smooth execution of the research study. Meet with parents and community members as part of the research project, describe the study, and answer questions. Serve as a primary contact with study participants; explain the purpose of the research study and the research protocols. Screen prospective participants to determine eligibility according to research protocol entrance criteria; conduct interviews according to established protocol. Maintain confidentiality of subject records. Assist in the orientation of new participants and answer questions. Identify, organize, and track information for reports. Assist in recording behavior of subjects during research protocols. Gather, record, organize, transcribe and verify the accuracy of research study data; prepare data for computer input; analyze computer printouts; set up research database files. Assist in performing mathematical and statistical calculations and/or analysis. Assist in modifying data collection forms; survey and summarize relevant literature, as well as preparing and modifying applications for the Institutional Review Board applications. Review and explain consent forms, questionnaires, and surveys with prospective subjects. Perform related duties as required. REQUIREMENTS: Two years of college-level course work in a relevant academic area AND one year of appropriate experience. Extensive experience with infants (younger than 12 months old). Strong computer skills, including fluency with Microsoft Office. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent flexibility, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Ability to transport oneself to research sites (owning a vehicle is not a requirement). Weekend or evening work availability may be required. DESIRED SKILL & EXPERIENCE: Strong customer service skills and/or community relation skills.
