ABOUT THE JOB
The Office of Research Programs and Initiatives department is seeking to fill a Research Associate Digital Futures position. This position will oversee and lead interdisciplinary research aligned with the goals and themes of the Digital Futures (DF) Initiative. Effective written and communication skills, leadership, team management skills, being creative and innovative are all skills needed for this position.

JOB OVERVIEW
Conduct interdisciplinary research aligned with the goals and themes of the Digital Futures Initiative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Coordinate an interdisciplinary research program as directed by leadership that seeks national/international impact and recognition, leveraging emerging technologies and integration of novel scientific methods, through collaboration and partnership. *Foster interactions involving multiple Digital Futures labs, centers and institutes. *Develop and assist in the writing of original proposals for new external funding; contribute to Sponsored Projects with DF researchers and other collaborators, including awarded proposals STTR and SBIR phase I and II, both as lead and as a subcontractor with federally aligned sponsors. *Accomplish all assigned research tasks, both internally and externally supported. *Support and lead, as required, student researchers in Digital Futures labs. *Support leadership in developing new relationships for future business in related areas for program growth. *Support leadership as requested with meetings, events, and conferences that enhance the scientific and technical capabilities in Digital Futures Initiatives. *May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.). *Develop & manage physical space and research instrumentation that enables an advanced visualization lab for traditional 2D development of future concepts, and a space that mixes virtual reality development with physical prototyping. *Conduct sponsored Research & Development (R&D) in DF advanced visualization lab for the development of future concepts, R&D in Urban Reshaping, and sponsored R&D with corporate clients. *Design the next generation of autonomous vehicle design research program for Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAVs), Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs). *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
•    3 years of experience with transportation design industry's state of the art software for advanced conceptualization, 3D visualization and prototyping.
•    1 years of experience in VR development for design prototyping, final visualizations, simulations and game engines.
•    1 years of experience working in future mobility design studios and publishing top tier academic research in the future of transportation.
•    Advanced experience in vehicle packaging and architectures.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
•    International recognition, international design awards and design patents.
•    Publications and academic lectures.
•    Experience with other prototyping methods such as CNC machining and laser cutting. Physical model making in various materials.
