Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator for the assigned research studies, the Senior Research Assistant will conduct epidemiologic and health services research and support the development and use of new translational software tools. Activities will include maintenance of patient databases, participation in national clinical research collaborations, testing and support of software tools, patient interviewing and recruitment, administration of questionnaires, assistance with grant preparations, administrative support, traveling once to 9 study sites across the country to train staff, and participation with the research team in preparation of data and other reports. In addition, this position will involve development of new research study plans and grant proposals and assistance of PI with IRB submissions and tracking.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:
Performs a variety of duties in connection with research studies:
participate with the research team in preparation of data and other reports
participate with the research team in testing and support of new software tools
maintain patient databases
perform administrative tasks
assist in grant preparation
perform literature searches
Will travel across the country to train 9 study sites in intervention protocol and offer continuous remote support to those sites on any challenges that arise with the intervention after initial in-person training.
Conducts interviews, recruitment and administers informed consent procedures for research subjects as required by the study(s).
Maintains patient information and study data through use of a database like REDCap.
Performs administrative tasks including:
managing project records
handling communication needs of the project (s)
maintaining related files and records
Provides assistance in the development of reports, grants, presentations and data analysis.
Consults and collaborates with professional and academic experts in other institutional departments and community organizations, in areas related to research study(s).
Assists in the dissemination of project and specific study-related information through conferences, presentations, and publications.
Maintains patient study files in accordance with legal and institutional guidelines.
Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service and patient care may be provided.
Utilizes hospital’s cultural beliefs as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital’s mission and goals.
Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures
Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Must adhere to all of BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards.
Completion of a Master's degree in a related area with one year related clinical trials research experience; or
Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of two years directly related clinical trials research experience; or
Completion of a Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of three years closely related clinical trials research experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Must become certified to work with Human Subjects, as per institutional and Federal guidelines
Refer to the above within “Education.”
Prior experience with quantitative research design, methodology, and analysis.
Completion of the NIH Human Subject Training program a plus.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Prior experience with quantitative research design, methodology, and analysis a plus. Computer literacy with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Access, etc.) and efficiency with statistical packages (SPSS, Stata, or SAS) for summarizing data a plus. Proficiency in Spanish also a plus.
