Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Mathematical Sciences

), located in the vibrant Washington, D.C., area, invites well-qualified candidates to apply for a twelve-month Postdoctoral Research Fellow position starting the Spring 2019 semester. Responsibilities:

This position entails working on an Air Force Office of Scientific Research (

AFOSR

)-funded project entitled, “Structure Exploiting Trust Regions for Bilevel and Risk-Averse Optimization,” directed by Dr. Harbir Antil. The project is broad in scope and is aimed at algorithms for optimization problems governed by large-scale physical models given by partial differential equations (PDEs), optimization under uncertainty, fractional PDEs, inverse problems, dimensionality reduction, deep learning. The incumbent will also be assigned to teach one course a year. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of yearly extensions depending on performance and funding.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in mathematics or a related area, with expertise in optimization, numerical analysis, and

PDE

modeling and computations.
