Role: Senior Research Analyst - North America Crude Markets
Team: Refining & Oil Markets Americas
The Senior Research Analyst will play a significant role in the development of Wood Mackenzie's North America crude markets research, providing a view of North America supply outlook and the role logistics and crude price differentials play in determining crude allocation into refining demand centers. This includes working closely with the North America supply team to validate North America supply sources, with particular emphasis on the growing US unconventional plays and Canadian oil sands fields. The role also requires close collaboration with the downstream refining team to incorporate views on refinery level crude slates, configuration and investment plans.
The ideal candidate will have a refining or oil markets background with a high degree of numeracy and analytical acumen. He or she should have the ability to work under pressure and within challenging time frames without compromising accuracy and rigor. The role offers an opportunity for the right individual to become a key member of the oil markets team within Wood Mackenzie's evolving global research business.
Leading the content and commercial development of our North America crude markets work with the goal of providing timely delivery of high quality content to clients while growing our oil markets client base
Contributing to the development, use and commercialization of the Oil Price Model, especially around elements of US Lower 48 supply and North American markets
Researching developments and trends in the crude oil markets, focusing on crude supply, logistics, and refinery operations
Collaborating with supply and upstream research teams to understand our changing supply views and the role of logistics developments across North America
Working closely with the Global content lead for Oils to drive content development for North America crude markets
Contributing to the development of new crude markets services(crude trade, crude valuation)
Performing refining value analysis and crude valuation using Wood Mackenzie's proprietary refinery model(PetroPlan)
Advancing our North America crude allocation and differentials model used for analysis of long term crude supply/demand and price outlook
Project managing the content development and delivery of our short and long term publications to our growing North America Crude Markets Service clients
Contributing to our monthly and semi-annual Macro Oils content publication, providing a view of relevant and insightful analysis of North America crude oil markets
Contributing to and developing topical insights and well written analysis of oil markets focused around strategic implications that are relevant to clients and prospects
Leading product demo sessions with clients and prospects, working closely with sales and account management to develop new business and secure renewals
Developing and maintaining productive relationships with industry contacts and clients
Participating and presenting at Wood Mackenzie forums and external industry conferences and events, promoting the Wood Mackenzie brand
Responding to client enquiries and ad hoc requests in a timely and professional manner, and supporting the initiatives undertaken by Wood Mackenzie's sales and marketing team
Responding to media requests for phone or in-person interviews as required
Contributing to relevant knowledge networks, bringing crude market expertise and thought leadership to the discussions
Participating and leading internal knowledge share sessions with the global oil and refining team on themes and trends in the crude oil markets
Supporting the Consulting business through contributions to projects for a wide variety of clients
Contributing to the direction and development of the Oil & Refining product suite as a whole as Wood Mackenzie enhances the delivery and coverage of the existing products.
Required Experience, Skills and Knowledge
Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, economics or related science field required
Minimum of 5 to 7 years experience in the downstream oil markets, refining or related sector
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
A solid understanding of oil market fundamentals
Good problem solving and analytical skills including competency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
Knowledge and use of programming language(R, Python) skills a plus
A genuine interest in the oil markets space with a passion for learning and knowledge sharing
Excellent communication skills, enabling you to relate to colleagues internally and to a range of personnel in client organizations
The ability to work as part of a global team involving multiple locations and time zones
Strong organization and planning skills and the ability to manage workload in a timely manner
A willingness to travel to Wood Mackenzie and client offices
