We are seeking an experienced R&D Weapon Response Analyst to fill our R&D Systems Engineer role. This role will support the development of a safe process for Nuclear Explosive Operations by:
Identifying and mitigating mechanical, electrical (in particular electrostatic discharge or ESD), and other hazardous forms of energy
Creating and documenting technical justifications and rationale
Identifying the safe operating environment for hazardous components
Developing technical subject matter expertise and working closely with peers at Sandia, Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Labs
Traveling regularly to Pantex (TX), LANL (NM) and LLNL (CA)

An advanced technical degree in physics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or related field
A minimum of 5 years system engineering experience with complex systems
Possess an active Q security clearance
Demonstrated leadership and project management skills, in particular, the ability to exercise resourcefulness and initiative in approaching and dealing with ambiguity
Department Description:
The primary mission of the Weapon Analysis Department is to provide Sandia executive management, system and component designers, independent assessors, and other customers with performance, risk, and safety analyses using state-of-the-art model-based tools, test data, and expert knowledge. Our results help to assure the safety of nuclear weapons during assembly & disassembly operations, transportation activities, and other potential planned and accident environments. An intimate knowledge of nuclear weapon safety and a science-based approach involving analysis, modeling/simulation and experimental data provide the technical basis for meeting the needs of our customers.

Security Clearance:
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
