Research Assistant

The Research Veterinary Technician will perform research procedures on laboratory animals that investigators will use to conduct exeriments at the Comparative Medicine Unit (CMU) of the ASRC. The Research Veterinary Technician will report to the Animal Facilities Operations Manager of CMU.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Assists CMU and its investigators with their research-related activities, e.g., data collection, experimental procedures, injections, specimen collection, and behavioral observations of animals as described in animal use protocols.
Assists investigators with their studies by providing special diets, sedation, gavaging, intraperitoneal, intravenous and intravitreal injections, supporting surgical procedures and collecting behavioral test results after training.
Collects, organizes, and reports research and animal health data.
Utilizes computer-based systems to collect and analyze data.
Reports research operations and findings to CMU’s principal investigators;
Evaluates animals’ health and treats them as instructed by CMU’s director or designee;
Performs animal husbandry procedures related to research projects, as needed, including observing the animals and maintaining their cages, collecting biological samples for diagnostic and research purposes, and maintaining husbandry and veterinary medical records.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.
A preferred candidate should have:
Bachelor's Degree in a biological or animal-related field.
Experience working with laboratory animals.
AAALAS certification at ALAT level.
