Work you ll do
The Research Manager will manage research projects in the Life Sciences sector on behalf of the Center for Health Solutions (the Center ), a division of the firm s Research & Insights group. The candidate will report to, and be supervised by, the Center Managing Director. The management of projects will include hands-on primary and secondary research as well as writing thought leadership based on findings.
The Center is responsible for creating high-quality content in life sciences and health care. The person in this position will focus on content for Deloitte s Life Sciences clients - global pharma, biotech, and medical technology companies - and our client service professionals serving these clients. Client teams share the Center s research with clients; the reports are also widely promoted through digital and social channels. The Center s expectation for this work is that it be fact-based, quantitative and qualitative from primary and secondary sources. Our strategy is for the research to be aligned with issues and challenges for which our clients are trying to solve. We provide forward-looking insights that give clients an understanding ofwhat could work to solve their challenges.
The Life Sciences Research Manager s key responsibilities are to:
Life Sciences research projects including developing short proposals, setting the analysis and work plan, selecting and contracting with any research vendors, conducting the research, writing up the results in an engaging and succinct article, and handlings subject matter expert input, and the publication process;
Play a leading role in developing and nurturing the talent of the Center research team, including working with the Life Sciences Research Leader to determine assignment of tasks to provide development opportunities, and providing timely feedback, mentoring and coaching to more junior team members on their work;
Use appropriate methods to bring a fact basis to the project, including analysis of quantitative data and modeling, if quantitative data are available.
Help deploy research/thought leadership through building interest with subject matter experts and client teams and making sure the work is aligned with what their clients are interested in and they want to talk about;
Understand the business and go-to-market priorities of the life sciences sector and the strategic marketing leads and align the content of the research to these priorities; propose topics and research projects that align with these priorities.
Work collaboratively with practice leadership and other teams (marketing professionals, knowledge management, PR, client service professionals, etc.) to share findings from our research and share expertise with others; and
Deliver work on time and of high quality and accuracy, anticipating where projects can get off track.
New York or Washington DC location preferred.

At least 5 years professional experience in the life sciences industry or in client service to the life sciences industry.
Solid writing skills, including the ability to write succinctly and about data findings in a business-focused voice
Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to think creatively and solve research problems Passionate about developing ahead of the curve provocative thinking
Quantitative skills e.g. Excel, Tableau, to allow analysis of industry data and survey results
Demonstrated project management experience and experience managing others
Self-starter, independent thinker and resourceful, and competency to work with distributed team members
Strong people skills that create strong relationships and credibility to both influence executive-level strategic thinking and create demand for new research initiatives
Excellent presentation skills
Collegial and team-oriented in approach
Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
Masters degree in health care related discipline, or MBA
Subject matter expertise on the commercial or supply chain aspects of life sciences, including
Marketing, brand management
Launch planning and execution
Market access/reimbursement strategy
Trade and distribution
Life sciences strategy consulting, focused on commercial strategy and operations
