Summary Initiates the development, execution and implementation of technology research projects. Develop new chemical processes and improve existing by mathematical modeling and process simulations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) principles. Plans and executes applied research. Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences. May participate in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts. Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles. Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups. Essential Job Functions • Develop new chemical processes and improve existing chemical processes by mathematical modeling and process simulations using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) principles • Provide technical insights into the functioning of the various chemical processes • Provide in-depth analysis of plant data across various chemical processes to identify opportunities for improvements • Plans and executes applied research Ancillary Job Functions • May contribute to scientific literature and conferences. • May participate in development of patent applications. • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts. • Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications • PhD in Chemical or equivalent Engineering • 0-2 years demonstrated industrial experience • Process simulations, modeling in CFD framework and support of chemical processes • Solid understanding of multiphase chemical reaction engineering Preferred Qualifications • Knowledge, understanding and be comfortable in using commercial CFD software such as Ansys • Experience in materials analysis and research of chemical process equipment for continuous process improvement • Be familiar with and demonstrate capabilities in reactor start-up/shut- down as well as all unit processes around reactors Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise in the area of research and testing. • Display initiative and accept responsibility for own actions to get the job done under minimal supervision. • Apply knowledge and skills to perform assignments independently or as a team lead. • Understand implications of work, exercise judgment and discretion in recommending solutions and improvements to processes. • Collaborate with other staff to develop new procedures and processes. • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. • Effectively utilize available and relevant technical tools and resources (e.g., Microsoft Office, other software or hardware, manufacturing systems and equipment, etc.). • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to explain highly detailed and specialized job-related information among diverse audiences. • Perform assigned tasks with reliability, honesty and discretion. • Act as a subject matter expert. • Provide guidance and training to other staff members.
