Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Biologist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is full-time with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.
Produce and maintain virus stocks from cell lines and rhesus PBMC under the guidance of the Chief.
Perform a wide range of complex procedures. Specific techniques may include, but are not limited to, DNA work (gene cloning, plasmid preparation, etc), protein work (expression and purification of protein, etc), cell work (tissue culture, transfection, peripheral blood mononuclear cell isolation, etc), and immunological assay (multiparameter flow cytometry, intracellular cytokine staining, immunophenotyping, ELISA, ELISpot, and Luminex, etc).
Conduct independent research under the guidance of the Chief, including planning, and conducting of experiments, data analysis and peer-reviewed publication of data.
Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments under GLP guidelines and following Standard Operating Procedures to perform test, analyses, and other procedures.
Make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results.
Prepare reports and contribute publications.
Maintain inventory, order supplies and reagents.
Track samples processed and assayed for accounting purposes.
Master’s degree in Biology or related field plus a minimum of 2 years’ experience. A bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience may be substituted for a master’s degree.
Demonstrated experience with virus stock production and maintenance is required.
Solid experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
Experience with PBMC isolation, flow cytometry, intracellular cytokine staining, and immunophenotyping.
Experience with assays such as ELISA, ELISpot, and Luminex.
