THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD
Summary:
Chenega Professional & Technical Services (CPTS) is seeking a Researcher II to support the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH). Specifically, the Researcher II will support CDRH’s Division of Biology, Chemistry, and Materials Science biofilms research group projects with a focus on textured breast implant biofilms and osseointegrated implant biofilms. The Researcher II shall perform literature search on the subject, propose a research plan, and make recommendations on purchase of supplies as needed to complete research.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with existing methods to study bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation on textured implant materials. Use confocal microscropy to study initial adhesion process.
Test a plasma treatment approach for sterilizing contaminated implant materials.
Evaluate experimental results, aid in statistical analysis.
Prepare scientific papers, reviews, and reports as needed.
Collaborate with government personnel to develop a library of textured silicone surfaces and shall modify FDA’s current reactor to test bacterial adhesion mechanisms and biofilm formation on surfaces.
Monthly reports to track the status of the task order.
Develop porcine transcutaneous skin model to evaluate contact killing and drug eluting technologies, and shall use this model to test various methodologies for preventing infection of osseointegrated implants.

Minimum Qualifications:
(To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Ph.D. or equivalent in Materials Science and Engineering field.
At least 2 years of experience researching biofilms on medical devices.
At least 1 year of experience using confocal microscopy to analyze biofilms.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated experience in bacterial culture, biofilm culture, electron microscopy, antimicrobial testing. Method of proof can include: publications, book chapters and presentations (>3 papers).
Experience in creating experimental methods, carrying out experiments, and analyzing experimental data. Proof of ability to lead projects can include: lead author on at least two papers studying bacterial adhesion/biofilms on medical devices.
