Summary

The Research Analyst will support research and evaluation efforts of the Healthy Steps National Office. Healthy Steps

is a national, evidence-based primary care model that embeds a child development professional into the universal, non-stigmatizing experience of pediatric care. The Healthy Steps National Office monitors and supports implementing sites located throughout the country. The Research Analyst will support the evaluation team in all phases of the research process, from conceptualization (defining key implementation/outcome measures, developing data collection protocols) to implementation (data collection and analysis) to dissemination (report preparation and presentation of findings). A major focus of the Research Analyst will be to develop and implement a process to assess implementation fidelity across Healthy Steps sites and address common fidelity issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Support the work of the Evaluation Manager who is responsible for overseeing fidelity monitoring and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts

Collaborate closely with the Data Analyst to ensure that Annual Site Reporting includes key data needed to assess fidelity

Contribute to the development of an implementation guide, implementation plan template, and supporting resources intended to help ensure implementation fidelity across Healthy Steps sites

Contribute to and implement a model fidelity monitoring plan for HealthySteps

Develop and implement new data collection protocols (e.g., intake form, satisfaction surveys) to help ensure consistent data collection across sites and to support CQI efforts

Facilitate evaluation-focused training and technical assistance (TTA) calls during site onboarding and to sites implementing HealthySteps

Support the Evaluation Manager and IT Manager in developing and implementing a Performance Management Data System (PMDS) that will be used to track National Office engagement with HealthySteps sites and to collect and disseminate aggregate site and National Office data to various stakeholders

Prepare and regularly update PMDS documentation and training materials and help to train and support National Office staff in using the PMDS

Lead the evaluation of the TTA provided to sites by the National Office and identify areas for improvement

Design and maintain datasets in Microsoft Excel and SPSS

Develop and administer web-based surveys using Qualtrics

Develop protocols for interviews, focus groups, and other data collection activities

Conduct in-person and/or telephone interviews and focus groups

Conduct basic and more advanced quantitative analyses using a quantitative analysis program such as SPSS

Analyze qualitative data using a qualitative analysis program such as NVivo

Develop data visualizations (graphs, tables, data dashboards) using Excel and data visualization software such as Tableau

Prepare summary reports on key evaluation findings in accessible formats

Work with HealthySteps project staff to define and fulfill their data needs, including helping them understand and interpret key findings

Respond to quick-turnaround requests for specific data analyses, including analyses needed for quarterly and annual reporting

Disseminate evaluation findings (conference presentations, research briefs, journal articles)

Conduct literature reviews of evaluation/research articles and reports, and prepare summary reports highlighting key information

Participate in standing and ad hoc meetings

Essential Skills and Experience

2 years of experience in evaluation of public health programs and/or early childhood programs

Strong knowledge of program evaluation and social science research methods

Experience developing and administering protocols for surveys, interviews, and focus groups

Experience disseminating evaluation and/or research findings

Knowledge of early childhood programs and policies, particularly in pediatric settings

Knowledge of implementation science and active implementation frameworks

Knowledge of performance measurement, benchmarking, and continuous quality improvement (CQI)

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint

Experience conducting basic and more advanced quantitative analysis, using SPSS or equivalent software

Experience conducting qualitative analysis, using NVivo or equivalent software

Experience visualizing data in accessible formats, using Excel and data visualization software such as Tableau

Experience providing evaluation-focused training and technical assistance

Experience collaborating with IT and/or evaluation staff to develop data systems for reporting and evaluation is a plus

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of audiences

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain complex information in simple language

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong facilitation skills

Strong organizational skills

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to effectively contribute to multiple data collection efforts simultaneously in an efficient manner

Masters in evaluation, public health, or related field

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is constantly required to use finger dexterity as well as sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also may need to remain seated for long periods of time and have the ability to perform repetitive motions, push objects, reach for objects and grasp objects, including a writing instrument. Employee is frequently required to walk, communicate verbally, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. The employee may be required to bend, stand, pull objects, squat, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and expansive reading. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Working Conditions

The work conditions described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home office. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.
