JOB OVERVIEW

The Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati within the College of Medicine is seeking a Research Assistant to work under general supervision of Katherine Burns, PhD. The Burns Laboratory's research is focused on studying endometriosis, a gynecological disease that affects millions of women. The successful applicant will be involved in examining the etiology of endometriosis using a mouse model of disease and human tissue samples. The goals of the current project are to dig deeper into immune regulation during the development of endometriosis.

This is an entry to mid-level position that will assist with the coordination of laboratory projects or research studies in immunology, reproductive biology, and/or microbiology, makes independent contributions to projects and studies based on professional training or functional experience. This position will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of the University of Cincinnati.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

*Demonstrate understanding of research fundamentals (e.g., testing and evaluating procedures, data validation and interpretation). *Knows fundamental concepts of molecular biology, immunology, or reproductive biology. *Demonstrates ability to learn, work in teams, and work on pieces of projects/studies. *Responds well to teamwork and for the timeliness and quality of his/her own work assignments as it relates to timeliness and quality of teamwork. *Performs assigned research; works under guidance of a more experienced professional; meets assigned deadlines; reads scientific literature. *Relies on more experienced staff; most work is subject to frequent review.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent level of knowledge (Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Additional related work experience may be required depending on field or discipline.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED

*Experience in flow cytometry, RT-PCR, western blotting, and animal handling techniques. *Experience with mouse husbandry, mouse surgery, tissue collection, or primary cell culture.
