The Knockout Mouse Project (KOMP) Embryonic Lethal Phenotyping program is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to contribute to this high-throughput research effort. Approximately one-quarter of all homozygous knockouts are expected to be embryonic lethal. Characterization of these mouse models—by documenting phenotypes, identifying the embryonic stage at which they become lethal, and cataloging the data—informs research for a host of developmental disorders. The ideal candidate to fill this position is a highly motivated life-long learner, with a passion for independent thinking, flexibility to respond to changes in schedules, new technologies, and innovative experimental design. Assessment of knockout embryos for embryological and developmental defects. Disection, evaluation, imaging, genotyping, and processing of embryos.
Data Entry and Quality Control (QC) Transcribing data into JAX Colony Management System (JCMS);
QC of data on a line-by-line basis, creating reports as needed.
Multimodal Imaging Will have, and/or be capable of developing, a functional understanding of the theoretical and practical details of the imaging modalities used in the pipeline – microCT, Optical Projection Tomography, and light microscopy.
Capable of developing, a functional understanding of the image analysis approaches in use, a knowledge of Python programming would be beneficial
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in the biological/life sciences OR equivalent knowledge as gained through 3-6 years of experience.
