Research Associate, Machine Learning Department','2008324','!*!Job SummaryThe Machine Learning Department (MLD) at Carnegie Mellon launched the world's first PhD program in Machine Learning in 2002, and this program continues to grow each year. We have students from 16 different countries with diverse backgrounds who have joined the program with either a bachelors degree or a masters. Some of our students have experience in industry and have made the decision to go back to school. A sampling of the backgrounds of our current students includes Computer Science, Math Sciences, Engineering, Automation, Business Economics, Computational Biology, Finance, and Neuroscience. We are seeking a Research Associate to join our Machine Learning Department. In this role, you will craft creative research products in the fields of human computer interaction, ethics, and policy implications of AI and machine learning technologies. You will lead the day to day operations of a portfolio of studies. You will assist in the development and execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data collected and writing up experiment results. You will also perform related duties as assigned. This is a fixed-term position and is due to end in September 2018. Your primary responsibilities include:Identifying problems and obstacles to progress; developing strategies to solve problemsProgramming software in support of job functions. Attending project meetingsPerforms research experiments following experimental protocol and procedures. Researching and documenting information by compiling and maintaining accurate and detailed recordsSummarizing statistical information for analysis, examination or presentation; writing technical reports. Building and validating quantitative modelsUsing a variety of software packages to input, manipulate, collect and record results or observationsCrafting and implementing research materialsRecruiting research participants, conducting literature reviews and studies including expert interviews, surveys and experiments, supervising undergraduate research assistantsProducing written analysis of research results and presenting findings to the larger teamAssisting with grant proposals and institutional review board submissions Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree with experience in social sciences, human-computer interaction or related research field is requiredExcellent project management, analytical, oral/written communication, problem-solving and reasoning skillsFamiliarity with human subject experimentation requiredFamiliarity with qualitative research methods required2-3 years experience research experience strongly preferredKnowledge of research in fields of applied ethics, policy analysis, and human computer interaction preferred Are you passionate about the dynamic research opportunity with us?
