This position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. In general, this position will assist in the set up, operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitoring experiments, making observations and calculating and recording results.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to focus on the experimental arm of the Center for Cancer Evolution (CCE). The principal mission of the CCE is to develop and validate mathematical modeling strategies of tumor evolution and treatment response, and eventually utilize these strategies to identify best therapeutic intervention practices. We hope insights gained through the CCE’s research will ultimately allow for improved cancer therapies to improve patients’ lives. The research technician would be principally responsible for data collection to allow for detailed modeling experiments. The responsibilities of this position will include evaluating new therapeutic targets, experimentally validating theoretical models, characterizing cell and cell line properties, performing single cell lineage tracing experiments and analyzing clinical cancer tissue samples along with appropriate documentation of results. The research technician will have the unique opportunity to support tumor modeling studies that will influence our understanding of cancer evolution, as well as participate in the research and design of even better methods if desired.
This individual will work with a team of center scientists to perform cutting edge research with potential impact on cancer treatment.
Specific duties would include among standard lab responsibilities:
Culturing of cell line models
Performing drug testing of cell line models in cell culture.
Extraction and analysis of protein, DNA and mRNA from isolated materials
Evaluation of effects of specific therapies in model system through immunoblotting, staining and other proteomic experiments
Must be willing to work with rodent models
Using general lab equipment
Data analysis and recording of results electronically and in a lab notebook
Prepare and writeup methods and procedures for publications
Prepare and maintain database of results
Working closely with a scientist who will serve as direct supervisor and mentor
Cooperating with a team of experimental and computational scientists
Managing ordering and stocking of laboratory supplies
Ability to work on a flexible schedule
We are looking for an enthusiastic and capable individual with a BA or BS degree in a related field. Experience in cell culturing, and with immunoblotting are desirable. In addition to technical and scientific knowledge, this individual should have good organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills as well as excellent organizational skills, ability to work within a team, flexibility and responsibility are all key for this position.
Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred.
Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
Ability to work within a team environment.
