\rThe Research Technician II will manage the daily operations of the Myelin Disorders Biorepository Project (MDBP). Located within the laboratory of Dr. Adeline Vanderver, this research project seeks to uncover novel genetic etiologies and better understand the natural history of leukodystrophies, a group of approximately 31 rare genetic disorders that affect development of the white matter of the brain, predominantly in pediatric populations. The knowledge gained from this project is expected to facilitate the development of more effective diagnostic tools and treatment options for future patients.\r\r \r\rThe Research Technician II will work closely with the principal investigator, project manager, research coordinator, and laboratory staff to support the recruitment and enrollment of new study participants. The Research Technician II is expected to independently oversee biological sample logistics and data management in the context of multiple disease-specific natural history studies. While occasional laboratory/bench work may be required, this is primarily a clinical research role – the Research Technician II will interact with researchers, clinicians, and patient families to collect and curate clinical research data that will be used to design and execute future clinical trials. This data will also be used to prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific publications\r\rJob Summary \r\r
\rThe biorepository is a high-volume, fast-paced project, and a successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to multi-task proficiently; prior experience working or volunteering in a clinical research environment is strongly preferred. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential, as the position involves regular contact with physicians and clinical staff in CHOP’s Leukodystrophy Center of Excellence (LCE), and with with patients and their families.\r\r \r\rThis position is intended for individuals interested in a career in in the basic or health sciences, and a successful applicant must have a demonstrable passion for academic research, as well as a desire to make meaningful contributions to a growing body of knowledge. The Vanderver Lab is a founding member of the Global Leukodystrophy Initiative (GLIA), an international consortium of clinicians, researchers, and disease advocates that seeks to build collaborative partnerships and will serve as a platform for industry-sponsored clinical trials.\r\rJob Responsibilities\r\r
\r\rAssist clinical research coordinators and senior investigators with recruitment, enrollment, and follow-up of study participants for the Myelin Disorders Biorepository Project (MDBP);\rPossess excellent written and verbal communication skills, as this position will require frequent interaction with clinical providers, researchers, and patient families;\rCollect medical records, neuroimaging, and biological samples from study participants in order to maintain physical and electronic (REDCap-based) research charts;\rWork with laboratory staff to store and monitor banked human specimen for future research use;\rPossess excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and prioritize duties;\rAttend and actively participate in regular laboratory meetings;\rProvide occasional scheduling and administrative support to the principal investigator and other senior members of the team;\r\r\r       Participate in the development and dissemination of scientific manuscripts\r\rRequired Education and Experience\r\r
\r\rAssociate’s degree, 9 - 18 months laboratory experience required\rRelevant Internship experience considered\r\r\rPreferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic\r\r
