The Cornell Center for Astrophysics and Planetary Science’s mission is to foster research among astronomers, engineers, geologists and other researchers with interests relevant to space sciences. Connected to, and contained within, the Department of Astronomy, the Center administers research grants and contracts across several Cornell departments. The Center also aims through public outreach to disseminate information about space science to students and the general public.
The Planetary Research group at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. is seeking a Research Associate to join our diverse team. The position will be for an initial one-year appointment, but is renewable with continuation for a second and third year contingent upon performance, and interest. Continuation beyond three years will be contingent on continued availability of funds. The nominal starting date is flexible.
The successful candidate will work with Professor Jonathan Lunine and his group, and closely collaborate with other members of the department (and their groups) including Professors Alex Hayes, Steven Squyres, and Philip Nicholson. While there is considerable latitude in the science program that can be pursued, specific topics of interest such as the interior of large icy moons, interiors of rock exoplanets, and gas giant interiors will be considered.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Astrophysics, Astronomy, Planetary Science or a related field. Applicants should have prior experience in, and a strong interest in planetary and satellite interiors.
