Senior Research and Development Food Scientist
Kelly Scientific Resources has partnered with one of our top clients to hire a Senior R&D Food Scientist in Westfield, WI.
As part of the R&D Team, the Senior Food Scientist will work with customers and coworkers in the development of new products and improvement of existing products. This is a direct hire opportunity with excellent benefits.
Education and Experience:
4-year degree in Food Science or related field
Minimum of 7 years in food manufacturing, and a minimum of 4 years in R&D/Product Development
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
Experience with protein product development
Experience working directly with National Chain Accounts, including appropriate presentation skills
Customer-focused approach to product development
Strong organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility to appropriately prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting established deadlines
Ability to function at a high level in a team-oriented environment
Understanding and application of the Scientific Method, with a strong approach to experimental design
Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP
Proficiency with MS Office
Desirable Skills & Knowledge
In-depth knowledge of methods and equipment used in value-added poultry processing, including the ability to provide technical leadership to production personnel
Understanding of back-of-house operations in Quick Service Restaurants and Casual Dining
Understanding of SQF; experience with SAP ERP system and Genesis software for nutritional analysis
Work under the direction of the Corporate R&D Manager to identify industry needs in all segments of business (industrial, foodservice, and national accounts) and develop new, innovative product offerings that meet specific segment/customer needs
Plan and organize new product ideation/development projects from concept through commercialization, including but not limited to: assessing customer requirements, coordinating and producing test/bench samples, coordinating and supporting production tests and new product startups, and coordinating sample shipments
Keep an organized account of product development projects, and generate reports for Corporate R&D Manager
Support product development and improvement projects, and use technical expertise to troubleshoot challenges
Support Sales department through direct customer contact, including technical presentations/visits as required
Travel up to 30%, including customer site visits, plants, co-packers, and suppliers
Lead development of finished product and process specifications
Maintain contact with suppliers regarding active projects, new ingredients, and new technologies
Work independently on projects, and manage their successful completion
Review, interpret, and summarize technical information
Develop and deliver succinct, relevant, and professional presentations
Generate and provide specific technical support, including but not limited to: CN equivalences for labels and Product Formulation Statements, nutritional analyses using Genesis, specific ingredient information requests
