Job Description

Essential Duties/Responsibilities 

Obtains complete medical and psychosocial histories; performs a complete physical examination.

Orders and or performs relevant laboratory tests determines medication and other necessary treatments.

Performs medical and health care procedures as directed or ordered through the record, and co-signed by the responsible physician.

Assumes the management of patients with acute or chronic stabilized illness under the supervision of physician.

Provides appropriate health education.

Interacts with patients, research participants, and family members in a friendly, prompt, and caring manner, maintaining confidentiality and respect at all times.

Assess patient study eligibility, obtains past medical history and health status as required by the research protocol and abstracts clinical data from medical charts and medical records.

Performs clinical and administrative procedures as necessary for study protocol - i.e. blood pressure, venipuncture, vital signs, dispense medications, administer medication (injections), completing case forms, answering queries, completing regulatory documents.

Assess research subjects for adverse reactions, discuss with investigating physician, and complete documentation.

Complete and maintain institutional review board documentation (submission, continuing review and safety updates).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Credentials

Must fulfill the criteria for licensure and certification as a physician assistant in the District of Columbia.

Experience

One to two years of experience in clinical research preferred. Knowledge/Interest in Infectious Diseases and Travel medicine, a plus.
