The Research Associate assists the PI's in the Pharmaceutical Science department with their research and experiments. Work is performed under direct supervision by the Principal Investigator (PI) or senior member of the lab. The position reports to the Chair of Pharmaceutical Science. This is a grant funded position anticipated to last for 2 years.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs a variety of standard research procedures with supervision
Graphs, analyzes and interprets data with supervision.
Keeps an accurate lab notebook and maintains laboratory stocks and supplies.
Adheres to laboratory safety procedures.
Participates in standard laboratory maintenance.
Obtains quotes and performs ordering and receiving duties for lab supplies.
Contributes to abstract submissions and poster, manuscript, and grant preparation.
Helps in the set-up and execution of experimental procedures.
Prepares and develops media for stocks, cell cultures, and experiments.
Monitors and handles test animals during experimental work.
Knowledge of sterile mammalian cell culture techniques and procedures.
Experience with fluorescence microscopy and/or flow cytometry.
Experience with cell-based biochemical kits/assays.
Experience with column chromatography (sample preparation, separation, and analysis).
Experience with protein purification, conjugation, and
Ability to perform various molecular biology techniques (e.g. immunoblotting, ELISA).
Ex vivo/in vivo
determination of dose response curves.
Animal handling (e.g., mice, rats)

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree with a focus in pharmacology, physiology, pharmaceutical science, biomedical science, biomedical engineering or analytical chemistry with 3 years of research experience required, 5 years of research experience strongly preferred. Master’s degree with a focus in pharmacology, physiology, pharmaceutical science, biomedical science, biomedical engineering or analytical chemistry with at least 2 years of experience is preferred.
Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Intermediate skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Basic skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
