The clinical/ health care research assistant in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science will be an integral member of the research team with a primary focus on studies in the Department of Neurosurgery. This position will provide support for research in neurosurgery by conducting multiple clinical trials with responsibilities including recruitment of research participants, administering research protocols, and collection and analysis of data.

A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Iowa is required by the date of hire.
Ability to work some weekends, evenings, and nights per study protocol as required.
Basic experience (6 months-1 year) caring for neurosurgical patients is desirable.
Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills with patients/families, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions are required.
Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) is the ethical and scientific quality standard for designing, conducting, recording, and reporting trials that involve the participation of human subjects is required.
Excellent time management skills and the ability to perform detail oriented work is required.
Working proficiency in computer software applications (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is required.
Previous basic experience and participation with clinical trials is highly desirable.
Working experience in processing research regulatory documents and study budget preparation is desirable.
ACLS and PALS Certification is desirable.
Phlebotomy and IV Therapy skills experience is desirable.
Experience with REDCap and I-Cart Applications is desirable.
Basic experience with preparation of IRB submissions is desirable.
