Bellevue, Washington-based Intelius Incorporated has introduced iSearch, an online search engine that locates information about individuals on the Internet.
iSearch gives you the ability to search by a person’s name and his or her location. A user can also search Internet screen names and phone numbers. The site is fee-based, charging $3 for individual searches, or $19.95 for a 24-hour pass.
MySpace, Facebook, and Google are also used for locating personal information, but iSearch is the first search engine specifically designed for that purpose.
iSearch can only find information that is posted on the
Internet, displaying all the web pages with a person’s name in one search entry.
The company has stated that it does not usually remove personal information from its database, even if requested to do so by an individual.
In early 2008, Intelius came under scrutiny for providing access to private cellular phone numbers culled from a variety of sources, including pizza
delivery companies. In response, Verizon threatened a lawsuit over posting consumer phone numbers without consent. A few days later the cellular phone directory was taken down.
